Complimentary Health Care Proxy for College Students

In honor of graduation season and fresh fall beginnings, we are offering a complimentary Health Care Proxy to students between the ages of 18 and 25, either currently enrolled in or beginning a college undergraduate program later this year.

Parents always want to do what they can to protect their children, but once a child turns 18, they are legally adults, and the parents’ ability to intervene is limited.

Students, their parents or legal guardians, are invited to call our office at (516) 692-2744 to make an appointment for their complementary Health Care Proxy.

What does this mean?

Because of the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) Privacy Act, parents of children over the age of 18, do not have legal standing to get information about their child’s health or well being. Doctors may not speak with parents about their child’s condition, and medical facilities; such as emergency rooms, may not provide any information to you, without the patient’s prior permission.

The Health Care Proxy allows the child to designate his or her parent as an agent or proxy allowed access to medical records and healthcare information, and to make medical decisions on his or her behalf.

This is an important document that provides peace of mind to parents and caregivers everywhere and we are happy to offer it for free to members of our community.

As always, if you have any questions about future planning, or need to make any changes to your current estate plan, please contact our office. Our skilled and dedicated team is standing by to help you achieve your goals.

Proof of college enrollment is required. Offer subject to change or end without notice.
